FORAGING WILD SPRING GREENS
DATE: Sunday, April 11 TIME: 2-4:30 pm meet (meet at 1:50 pm) PLACE: Takoma - Sligo Creek Park TICKETS: Space is limited to TEN. $35 Dames, $40 Guests of Dames RSVP: Click here to purchase your ticket. If you need additional help or have questions, please send an email to [email protected] Deepen your connection with nature’s web of life. Join fellow Dames for a seasonal foraging walk with Matt Cohen, founder of Matt’s Habitats. Bring your walking stick, camera, and maybe a zip-lock bag for your finds for an afternoon of foraging along the hills and trails of Takoma Park. You’ll learn to identify an array of early spring plants, many of which could be in your back yard and just waiting to be included in your spring salads! Come and learn so you don’t waste these wonderful early plants – they’re not weeds, they’re edibles! Our conversations will include not just “the where, but also the why and the how.” Let’s walk and talk sustainability, simple gifts, and grass-root cooking! During our April wild-greens walk, you’ll become acquainted with nature’s abundant and edible offerings - redbuds, violets, chickweed, Japanese knotweed shoots, sweet cicely, honewort, garlic mustard, field garlic, dandelion, spicebush, and yes, we’ll discuss how to eat that nutritional storehouse, a stinging nettle! We might find a few wild leeks (ramps) and a few wild edible mushrooms. At the end of the walk, we'll make up a delicious, nutrient-packed salad! DAMES WHO READ

The New York Times called it “An Indian Appetizer, Subtly Spiced,” and went on to say, “at its heart The Lunchbox is about the amazing dabbawallahs, who transport hot meals by Mumbai housewives to their deskbound husbands. A rare mix-up leads to a connection between a woman trying to woo her husband through his stomach and a testy insurance claims adjuster [a stranger] sliding toward early retirement. The two pass notes in the lunchbox” and create a fantasy relationship. DAMES WHO READ
